Atlantic: Tropical Storm Dorian

Tropical Storm Dorian is located 135 miles east-southeast of Barbados, moving west-northwest at 12 mph with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph.

Forecast models suggest that Dorian will make a close approach to Barbados, August 26, and to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Lucia, August 27. Further projections indicate that the storm could start strengthening into a hurricane in the Caribbean Sea, south of Puerto Rico, around August 28.

National Hurricane Center (NHC) issued a Hurricane Watch for St. Lucia and a Tropical Storm Warning for Barbados, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. A Tropical Storm Watch has been also issued for Dominica, Grenada and its dependencies and Saba and St. Eustatius.

Some uncertainty remains in the forecast, and the storm’s projected path and intensity could change at short notice.

Flight disruptions and cancellations are possible at Grantley Adams International airport (BGI) and Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) on August 26-27, 2019. Authorities are expected to close Grantley Adams airport from noon on August 26 in response to Dorian.

Clients are advised to check the status of their flight(s) prior to departure.
