Additional states have declared a state of emergency in response to the novel coronavirus outbreak including Washington, Florida, California, Kentucky, New York, Maryland, Utah, Oregon, Massachusetts, and Michigan.

Authorities in New York state plan to establish a containment area of 1.6 km (1 mile) in New Rochelle, New York, between March 12-25, in an attempt to contain the spread of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Businesses will remain open, and people will not be banned from moving in or out of New Rochelle.

The New York National Guard will be deployed to help deliver food to those quarantined in the city and to clean public places in the containment area.

Heightened security in New Rochelle is likely. Some business and transport disruptions are possible despite the new measures not including business closures.

U.S. President Donald Trump advised he will suspend all travel from Europe to the U.S. for the next 30 days.

The restrictions, which will not apply to the U.K., will go into effect Friday at midnight.

The World Health Organization earlier Wednesday declared the outbreak is now a pandemic and urged governments to step up containment efforts as the number of worldwide cases topped 126,000.
